iNaturalist Observation of Week, and Observer of the Month

Hi everyone!

I wanted to announce two new things we are going to do to help get more people involved in the project. and to thank you for some of the great photos you take! Every week we are going to be posting our Observation Of The Week, either a stunning picture or a beautiful or rare species to help highlight some of the great things you find out there! These will be posted on our Facebook and Instagram and I will always let you know if your content has been selected!

We are also doing an Observer Of The Month to highlight those of you that really go above and beyond in submitting good quality observations. The person for July has already been selected but August is a new month! These will be featured on FB and Instagram in addition to the Coastal Mountains Newsletter! If we already have your email and you receive our biweekly newsletters then you should get it no problem. If you would like to sign up, leave a comment or shoot me a message!

As always thank you so much for the great content. We have even bigger things in the works including some volunteer opportunities where you can help us better catalog the species in our preserves. Can't wait to tell you about them soon!

Welcome to Coastal Mountains Land Trust Preserves

Hello everyone and welcome to our project page! Thanks to those of you who attended our tutorial webinar yesterday and thank you to the others who were already a part of this project before hand! I look forward to seeing all the great observations you upload! For those of you who weren't at the webinar here are the main points:

We want to encourage the usage of our Preserves this summer so we will be offering prizes to the highest observer in our preserves as well as possible prizes for the most unique or interesting species found! Enjoy iNaturalist while you're out hiking and remember to log your miles at coastalmountains.org/trails

In addition to using the app, we may have additional volunteer and community activities for those of you wishing for a more active role in conservation with Coastal Mountains Land Trust. Please message me if you are interested and you could help us scout our trails for damage and more!

I would love for this community to become an active one so feel free to comment on any post or message me at any time with questions! I will try to pull together weekly discussion posts and if enough people are interested then I can throw in some really interesting stuff!

Hope to see you all out there!

Finally Up and Running!

Hi everyone! My name is Matthew Bonner and I am an Environmental Steward with the Maine Conservation Corps, currently serving with the Coastal Mountains Land Trust in Camden. Over the last few days I have been getting to know iNaturalist and setting up projects for each of the CMLT's lovely preserves here in Midcoast Maine. By outlining each Preserve, their respective project pages should be able to track what people observe there automatically to be shared with everyone. This should give us a great view of all the wonderful things living in these natural areas, all of which should be visible from this main page!

As the season continues I'm going to be on here quite a bit, making changes and (hopefully) improvements. Not all of our preserves are connected yet but that's going to change very soon! For now you should be able to see the species from some of our more popular Preserves like Beech Hill as well as some other Preserves you may not be familiar with. I encourage everyone to spend some time at their favorite Preserves and to check out the less visited spots that need some love. I hope by the end of the season, this page will be a hub for some of the marvelous biodiversity we can find in our own backyards and that it will encourage more and more people to get outside and explore!

Stay tuned!

The MCC is an AmeriCorps program funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service through Volunteer Maine. The MCC is also a part of the Bureau of Parks and Lands within the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry.
