iNaturalist Spring Observations Questions

Hi all!

I think I may be the only one able to start a discussion thread in the Journal, so I'll start this Journal post and you can share your journal responses as comments.

Here's a reminder of the questions. Your observations are automatically being added to this project already, and if you are a member of the project you'll receive updates and be able to post journal responses.

Step 1: Develop a simple question to guide your personal bioblitz that represents some of your wonderings about Gaps Lake or other wonderings in the spring. Here are a few ideas:

  • How does sun exposure influence the number of plant species? Insect species?
  • What sorts of biotic components of our system are around at this time, and how do they change over time? (birds.. plants... invertebrates?)
  • make some biotic observations near a water source and then further away - how do you think these biotic components either are or are not impacted by the factors you explored in your fall maps

Step 2: Join iNaturalist Project and add a post to your Journal!

  • Log into iNaturalist (website, not app) and visit our Place-Based Ed 2.0 2021 Project (Links to an external site.)
  • Click on "Join Project" in upper right corner.
  • Add a post to the project Journal with some ideas for questions. Click "project journal" in upper right corner, then add your post. You can add additional posts later, reply to each other, etc!

Step 3: Go out and observe! Add your observations to iNat, and check back in for IDs and engagement from the community. Send a message to Amy (@alorenz) on iNaturalist with any questions!
