Awareness is a discipline requiring time, patience, and slowing down - all of which are difficult to do for a person wired to GO GO GO! In recent years, I have experienced the joys of observation, mainly from my students at science camp and my 3 and 1 year old nephews. Adventuring outside and taking the time to smell, feel, listen, observe, and sometimes taste the natural world around me has connected me to my home and the places I visit. I'm a sucker for purple wildflowers, banana slugs, and manzanita flowers. The hills around home and the Sierra Nevada are home; places I desire to know more. As an aspiring science teacher, I hope to incorporate the art of being a naturalist in my classes to further build community while connecting my students to place.
There's always time to stop and smell the flowers!
