Looking at the fish with a yellow anal fin. I notice that some were also showing some purple colouration although they were still pretty small.

This school was in a "new" rock pool next to and under the rocks on the way to the island.

A couple of other fish that looked like these https://inaturalist.nz/observations/146242758 were also hanging around with them.

The photos are heavily cropped from a GoPro.

Initially noticed this swimming with a school of Glass gobies (circled in pic 6.) It then dropped down to the sand.

Now this was a bit of a surprise.
Swam out when I lifted a rock. It then tucked into a space nearby. Very weird things. Habitat shot last. That's the spot he was in before I flipped the rock.

~4cm long
Lower intertidal.

I just found this little guy in some GoPro rockpool photos. It hung around and showed interest in the food I had dropped in for the triplefins but it's not clear whether it ate any. The photos are heavily cropped.

Found this in Pataua estuary in half a meter of water an hour or so before high tide. It was initially half buried in sand until disturbed. Initially thought it could be a juvenile Allomycterus pilatus. But it does look visually similar to Torquigener altipinnis which is apparently not known from mainland NZ. Happy to say I have no idea.

@clinton think this one's for you?
