Two-day camping in Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park; July, 2015. This mother Black Bear shot me a suspicious and warning glare as she crossed my path heading back to her two cubs waiting for her behind a tree. I've seen black bears a number of times, but this was by far my most exciting observation of one. Initially, it was pretty far away, but myself and several other hikers watched it from a trail, and it actually wandered quite close to us, including on the trail! Way way closer than I would have gotten intentionally, but fortunately it was focused on hoovering up crowberries and was not interested in us. In this video, at one point the bear looks directly towards me, I believe this was when a nearby hiker for some reason decided to make noise by unzipping his backpack. On the other hand, I was watching in complete silence because I didn't want the bear to focus on me!
