Gall on Miconia tococa
Probably incorrect, but perhaps a place to start to determine what this is on Baccharis halimifolia.

• Putting this on here in hopes of some kind of more specific answer, hopefully down to a species; this flower-gall occurs on (Spermacoce verticillata) & looking up gall-forming species for this plant have come up short. I have come across other gall photos online that look similar to what I've observed, but they never have a named species for what made the gall.
Many midges emerging from galls in flowers of an Amaranthus sp.! I photographed them with my microscope.
I collected four Amaranthus sp. plants from the same area to try to key them out using the Weakley key (and failed) but was really happy to find lots of cool critters using the plants.

Undescribed bud gall on California Matchweed? There were several of these on each of the half dozen or so individual host plants within a 100 ft radius.
Host: Catsear (I think - other opinions welcome.) Note brown gall body within a rosette gall composed of clustered leaves showing swollen petioles/ midribs. Not represented in Russo's field guides. @nancyasquith, @megachile, @kemper

Waikowhai Park, Hillsborough, Auckland. Leaflet fold galls on kowhai, containing live larvae.
Seems to be galls in most of the berries. I'm unsure of the plant. https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/140886224
Stem galls found on trees that also had the n-densiflorus-tanoak-fuzzy-gall on leaves. Pulling both apart revealed identical gall structures and identical larvae. The larval chambers seemed typical for a lot of midge galls, being small "pockets" in the gall tissue which aren't actually sealed shut, and can be easily opened along the seam.

Gall formed on Lonicera hispidula?
This appears to be some sort of gall on an aster leaf. There were more of these structures on the plants nearby, and I only found them on the upper leaves.
Galls were found on shoots of Maireana brevifolia on 20Aug22. Galls were collected and incubated in a jar and the enclosed pupae and emerged midges were photographed on 7Sep22 and 19Sep22 respectively.

Flowerbud galls on Actaea podocarpa. The galls appear as enlarged flowerbuds, and each contains a single off-white larva. Similar galls on the closely related Actaea simplex in Japan are made by one or several undescribed species of Schizomyia.
Pupae were about 2 mm long. When galls were kept in vials, larvae emerged from galls to pupate when the vial was moist, but sometimes pupated inside the bud when the vial was drier. I am not sure which they do in the wild, although the Japanese species emerge and pupate in the soil.
