Seen standing on Wilderness Rd looking south.I showed photos to Kevin T Karlson he thought it was probably a Cinnamon Teal x Northern Pintail hybrid..It flew around with Blue-winged Teal a couple of times it did not have the blue wing patches of a Blue-winged or Cinnamon Teal but it had the same type of wing patch that a Green- winged Teal or Northern Pintail has.
Experts - What is going on here? This male American Kestrel sure did seem to have the hots for this female Merlin. He kept trying to get close to her and even brought her a few treats (insects?) from the grass beneath the fence. She accepted the treats but didn't seem thrilled with the attention.
