Rare Records & Observations at different intervals of time in Nallamala forests Andhra Pradesh.
An India pitta collecting dry leaves, twigs for making it's nest. It's a very rare sightings of Pitta breeding in southern India, especially in Nallamala forests. It's a native bird of Indian subcontinent. The word 'pitta' is derived from the Telugu language meaning 'small bird'. It breeds in the forest of Himalayas, hills of central and western India and migrates to other parts of peninsula in winter. It's inhabits scrub jungle, deciduous and dense evergreen forests. It's a local migratory bird with it's prominent colours and short tail features which breeds around South West monsoon season. Mostly breeding happens in North India however, nesting has been observed in South India too but very rare as per records.
