Appeared in great profusion this year in my lawn which I do not spray to allow wild plants to survive. House backs up to an open field where soil is sometimes dumped. Area rapidly suburbanizing.
On Tropical Milkweed that I planted next to the drainage ditch in front of my home. It attacked and drove away a giant swallowtail that tried to feed on a neighboring milkweed plant.
Feeding on Aromatic Asters (planted by me).
Very numerous on aromatic asters and goldenrod especially. They arrive daily at about 10 am, flying in one by one over the backyard treeline. Neighbors on Stonewall Road keep bees, they could be coming from there over the field between us. Some seem to come from other directions but most come from the back (direction of Stonewall Rd.) Also feed on other flowers such as mealy sage at this time of year.
On leaves of Green Antelopehorn milkweed.
Found under a plastic Rainwater barrel in a little hollow in the soil, in my unsprayed suburban back yard which abuts an open field.
I see a lot of these, as well as similar brownish ones with blue markings. This one was in the flower of an iris I planted in my front yard.
On Gregg’s mist flower which I planted in my front yard.
