JD Rogers collection - Bishop Museum Herbarium
Host: Eucalyptus
Growing on or associated with a polypore, which seems to be reflected in the name change.
This was growing out of the log, I brushed it and it fell off, it's only laid like that to photograph.
Found growing from soil. Hardwoods and Juniperus virginiana nearby.
HC21-589
At this observation date, 26 April 2021, this plant looks like C. dentata in every way, but we collected fruit here in 2007 and they were definitely chinquapins!
ID very tentative.
The little round holes in it seemed odd.
Growing on a well-rotted, mossy hardwood log. Not producing a latex when cut. Excipulum composed of irregularly rounded brownish (in Melzer’s) cells. Excipular cell measurements: (20.2) 27.2 – 46.5 (51.1) × (18.5) 21.7 – 40.4 (46.2) µm, Q = (1) 1.1 – 1.4 (1.7); N = 30, Me = 34.9 × 28.6 µm; Qe = 1.2. Asci unitunicate, operculate, 8-spored and uniseriate. Asci dextrinoid at the base in Melzer’s and amyloid with greenish tints at the tips. Asci measurements: (248.5) 261.6 – 291 (297.6) × (11.2) 11.4 – 14 (16.7) µm, Q = (17.4) 20.1 – 25.1 (25.4); N = 20, Me = 276.2 × 12.9 µm; Qe = 21.7. Paraphyses hyaline and filiform, with abundant guttules in distilled water. Spores hyaline, roughened and lacking apiculi. Spore measurements: (12.1) 12.5 – 15.5 (16.3) × (6.8) 7.2 – 8.1 (8.6) µm, Q = (1.5) 1.7 – 2 (2.2); N = 30, Me = 14.1 × 7.7 µm; Qe = 1.8
