Could this be C. holosericea? There appear to be leafy bracts below the flower heads, but they may not be green or big enough to qualify? I think I can see tiny teeth on the leaf margins.
Just one plant on the rocky ridge. Leaves c. 15 x 7mm. My best guess is C. angustifolia x hectorii, both of which were present.
On early part of track, alt. c. 1000m. Leaf 18x3.5cm. Shiny satiny tomentum on underside and a green petiole.
Leaves incl. petiole c. 5x1.5cm. Virtually glabrous and glossy above, toothed margins, satiny white under with green midrib. The NZPCN list has C. densiflora, not C. bonplandii, but I don’t know how much of the track that list covers. I got right up to the saddle. I saw C. densiflora leter this week in the Thomson Mountains, but that looked quite different. Unfortunately my photo does not show it, but the petiole bases and stems had the dark purple colouration typical of C. bonplandii.
The only one I saw still flowering in 5 days on the mountain
