Cullowhee: Western Carolina University campus, between Moore building and Madison dormitory, on the side of the street nearest to Madison. A few trees growing together with moss growing on their roots. A large tree with shreddy bark and scaly needles.
Cullowhee: Western Carolina University campus, behind Breese gymnasium, between breese and Moore building. Grassy hillside with a few other large trees. Large tree, with branches going all the way to the ground.
Approximately 10 ft up on the hillside behind the centerfield wall of the WCU softball field, approximately .25 miles from the WCU roundabout. The tree itself appeared young and saplings of the same species were growing around it.
Observed along climber's trail in west boulder field of Rumbling Bald Mountain, Chimney Rock State Park.
Common throughout hardwood forest on southeast facing slope among granite boulders and outcrops.
Vegetative.
