Found off side of road on upper edge of dropoff before shore of Spot Pond
If this is Greenbrier this would be a new record for these woodlands! I thought it was a young Multiflora Rose, but the thorns are straight. I’m guessing it’s either a native Rose species or a Greenbrier. In a wild garden near edge of woods.
Flower head just over 1" in diameter; leaves clasping; involucre very tall (close to 1cm); approximately 25 pale purple ray flowers, bracts hairy (glands, if any, not obvious to me); stem hairy; upper leaf surface rough; teeth on leaves are spine-tipped... Original ID of S. patens was vetoed.
More than 30 vertical striations along stem, visible after drying).
