According to the 2005 ODFW status report on native fish; the Westslope Cutthroat Trout is one of the rarest native fishes in Oregon, but confined to 17 creeks in the John Day River Basin, though they were once widespread throughout northeastern Oregon. They are in peril and threatened with local extinction due to hybridization with hatchery stock Rainbow Trout. The hybrids are between these two species are sterile.

You can tell not a Westslope as doesn't have as much spots, and the spots are more frequent below the lateral line before the tail.
