Half a dozen stems at the base on a silver maple in a swamp. Not a very good photo (see 2nd photo), but the calyx lobes seem to distinctly exceed the nutlets. Might go back and get better photos of these plants soon.

interesting recently opened patch. was shaded out by adjacent red pine plantation and thick with white and scotch pine saplings. cleared of these in fall 2023
responded very well from this Spring's prescribed burn
one plant flowering. grown from seed collected from one of the last remaining plants. planted fall 2020
