Gordonia Duneveld (vegetated dunes). Full sun in aeolian sand on underlying quartzitic granite.
Narrow hairy leaves with a sharp tip. Single flowers on a hairy deep red stalk. Bracts are in two rows, deeper red, sharp tipped, like a Gazania (op cit.), hairy. Flowers are white rays and bright yellow disk. Deep red stripe on each ray on reverse. Found on the road side on disturbed ground.
Previously classified as Gazania armerioides and the reverse of the flowers look similar to the genus in that it has stripe. Despite the common name (Mountain Gerbera) it does not look similar to that genus to me.
Granite Renosterveld koppie.
