So this is the third rat — African giant pouched — that we have found in our yard near our door in the past 4 months. That’s likely the dogs dragging them in, but I no longer believe the dogs are killing them. They have no external wounds or injuries. This area is amazing with indigenous trees and natural habitat for these native residents. I wonder what’s killing them?
Seems to have been run over by a car. This is a suggested ID from a friend. It does seem right based on the description I've read online. Strangely this isn't included in the Kingdon mammal guide, even though other exotics like Rattus rattus are included.
Anyone who knows their rodents well, please confirm the ID.
