Caught on Blue/Silver Floating Minnow lure, 13.5 inches TL
Dead
Seen near Edge of Everglades trail. The road I walked west on was flooded in many parts but there were lots of cool nocturnal fish and other critters that came out after the sun went down. Frogs were also calling non-stop. I set up a blacklight but ended up spending more time looking around in the water than watching the sheet for bugs. The area south of the road I walked had been burned less than 2 months ago and there was a lot of nice plant action.

Class: Aves
Order: Passeriformes
Family: Hirundinidae
Genus: Progne
These birds had several features that told me that it was a martin. First, it was visibly large, even from a distance, with a dark coloration. This coloration had a kind of sheen on it, which was unique. Also, it had a slightly forked tail, which told me that they were a purple martin.
These purple martins were spotted hanging out on an electrical pole/transformer out on Paynes Prairie. They were chilling on a cold, rainy day, socializing with each other.
