ABSTRACT

The purpose of this project is to find out whether temperature is one of the factors initiating migration of birds.
Methods:-
The study area is a location around Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Panchawati, Middle Andaman. Birds in each transect were recorded from 29.12.2011 to 29.12.2012 and counted. Observation was done from 6.00 a.m to 7 a.m daily.
The temperature and relative humidity were also recorded. Analysis of relationship between temperature and sightings of migratory birds found during the period was done. Migratory routes for different species were deduced after referring other publications. A comparative study of seasons at different states where these birds were sighted were done and other parameters recorded from websites.
Extrapolations from results obtained after study infers a relationship between temperature and migratory visits. It was also found that there is a chronological sequence in the arrival of different species of migratory birds in Panchawati.
