The Trichia Decipiens, also known as Salmon-Eggs due to its close appearance to the fishes eggs, is a species of fungi which commonly lives on moist rotting trunks (Barrionuevo, n.d.). It has a very complex and interesting lifestyle which changes based on the environment (Barrionuevo, n.d.). Usually throughout the year, the Trichia Decipiens lives simply as cells which gains its nutrients from bacteria, yeasts and other small organisms (Barrionuevo, n.d.). What's interesting is that these cells are always mobile and change their form of transportation as conditions change (Barrionuevo, n.d.). When in humidity they show a flagellate form and when the humidity is low, it crawls using amoeboid form (Barrionuevo, n.d.). If neither is conditions is present and the Trichia Decipiens is in a drought condition, they reduce their activity and rend their surface rigid, until conditions become more favorable - almost like hibernation! (Barrionuevo, n.d.).
