Carpenter Bee
The iridescent wings of this flattened bee are what caught my eye. It was in the parking lot of a roadside fruit stand. A search for a live specimen among the local flowers was fruitless and only turned up honey bees.

Today was the first-ever birding trip. The drive-through auto tour at both locations was great. The variety of animals was amazing. We started at about 08:20 when it was still 40*F. When we finished there were at least 42 different bird species identified, as well as some mammals, plants, insects, etc. There was a good variety of predator and prey.
