First discovered carcass of Southern Pacific Rattlesnake at 7:30 AM, there were 3 Western Yellow Jackets feeding on the tail and one on the head. I came back 5 more times to observe the consumption of the carcass by the yellow jackets. At 9:10 AM, there were 3 Yellow Jackets on the head and none on the tail. At 11:30 AM there were no Yellow Jackets as it was probably too hot. At 4:15 PM, there were 7 Yellow Jackets and 2 flies. The picture shown here is from the 4:15 PM observation. At 7:00 PM, there were 19 Yellow Jackets, all at the upper portion. The next morning at 7:15 AM, the carcass was gone. There were a few bones with some flesh being eaten by Yellow Jackets. There are additional pictures showing the progression of the carcass being eaten at the following reference: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/32770393. Other references are https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/32776472 and https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/32777138 .
