I am a retired ecologist living in Austin, Texas. I studied the impacts of urbanization on birdlife for my graduate work (Ph.D., Univ. of Texas, 1987), and worked in the private and public sectors in the environmental field for 40+ years. My last gig was Wildlife Biologist at Balcones Canyonlands NWR (1994-2010) here in Central Texas. I am interested in all things under the sun (and moon), but particularly energy flow in ecosystems, as well as the biogeography of birds and leps with an emphasis on endangered species. Since about 2015, I have been working at contributing to the improvement of field and photo identification of moths, with an emphasis on two groups of particular interest to me: lichen moths and aquatic Crambids. My latest icon image was taken in Boquete, Chiriquí, Panama (December 2017). Everyone needs a birding companion. Photo credit: Mary Kay Sexton.
