I'm professor at the University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. My research focuses primarily on soil ecology, community ecology, bioindication and biodiversity with a strong focus on protists and especially a group of free-living protozoa, the testate amoebae. I am interested in understanding the response of above- and below-ground communities to natural gradients, present and past ecosystem dynamics and the effects of human activities on ecosystems. This research has implications for environmental management (bioindication of perturbation and restoration), ecotoxicology, and palaeoecology. More recently I have also started working on pesticides both their occurrence and impact on living organisms as well as forensic ecology.
