After weeding only climbing asparagus (scandens) in our local park of 50 ha, we became painfully aware of the spread of this weed, and how long the seed remained viable. Over the last 6-7 years we have noticed other weeds spreading such as Queensland poplar, Taiwan cherry, and just recently we have noticed an abundance of Norfolk pine seedlings. We have also noted the number of garden escapes near carparks/walkways at the beach where garden rubbish has been dumped. Our 'obsession', has driven us to learn as much as we can about this ever increasing invasion of weedy species.
