I'm a sociologist and professor at Pratt Institute with an undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies from Simon's Rock College and some graduate school work in Human and Cultural Geography at Syracuse. My interests in ecology were in aquatic invertebrates and environmental impact analysis. Most of my academic work now is in the history and sociology of science, Critical Theory, the genealogies of systems of knowledge about the relation of human society and nature (if indeed they can be separated), and landscapes/soundscapes. Living in Upstate Manhattan near Ft. Tryon and Inwood Hill Parks, there is ample opportunity to observe diverse flora and fauna, as well as a diversity of human interactions with their environment with the effects that follow. Students in my course Sociology of Music/Sound/Noise are encouraged to make use of INaturalist in their landscape/soundscape projects.
