Saw this on the edge of the parking lot and by the dumpster at Blue Hills Reservation.
I'm not sure what ant these are. There were dozens of winged ants swarming on the top fo the Blue Hill Observatory. If I were a high point, they would swarm around me and start to cover me, or my camera case. It was a frenzy - brutality in nature. It seemed that the cloud came in waves - some time it was thick, sometimes it thinned.
These are fairly small ants - more like the little black ants than sugar ants.
This one was caught and held temporarily captive in a waste basket. It will be released somewhere far into the woods. Such big eyes!
Saw it while on the main slope of Great Blue Hill.
This one flew in and paused for a moment. It moved on before I had a second chance.
