And total species is 603, so in no month can one see half the species, but in July Augusts it is the lowest at just over 12%
The worst possible time for a moth challenge.
And in a good month we get three times more moths than a bad month.
Not obvious if the high total is random (i.e. a sampling problem) or if there are distinct "moth seasons" for different species.

The real factor is perhaps the number and behaviour of observers in each month. The tourists have gone !
We really have just two main observers for moths accounting for 7,951 out of
8,928 observations. I think I am a steady observer making daily observations while the other seems to have bursts of very high activity punctuated by long rests from observing !

Perhaps we are looking at the the seasonal activity patterns of observers rather than moths themselves.
In hot months I focus less on moths and underobserve them since I have many other more interesting things to observe..
In cooler months I focus on moths because they are the only beasts around to observe ! This distorts figures a bit in favour of the cooler months.

There are very certinly moth seasons, moth months or even moth weeks for different species.
have made separate projects for each month of the year, to try to fnd out which moths appear in which months.
The moths in cold winter months June July are quite different from those found in summer months.

Dont forget moths include eggs, pillars and pupae and its very hard to find those in June july ! That also distorts figures.

We have many observations of tiny moths that mainly never get IDs even to family level. I dont think other African countries observe the tiny unidentifiable moths as much as Botswana !!!!
