Calling from an eastern cottonwood tree in my yard. This is the first definitive proof (a specimen I found might’ve been a weird linnei) that I’ve been able to get that this species is in my area. First one that I have heard in ~2 years. Rarest cicada in my area. This might be their northernmost location
I thought this was a bee when I saw it flying in a swaying motion in my yard. Holy shnikeys
Same specimen as an earlier post from a different account of mine - which I’ll delete soon. This female landed on soil near the base of a dying young elm. There are many old growth trees in my yard, which probably attracted it.
Holy….
This was in the bottom of a drainage creek in my yard….. out of all the dragonflies I expected to find in my yard, this was certainly not one of the top pics

says David Morgan, who spotted them, "I kept seeing a faint spot of light on the curbing about 70 yards away."

The finding of this fly has a pretty good story. When I was little (maybe like 5 or 6) I found this same species but back then I glued bugs to styrofoam boards with no collection data. Last year and this year I’ve been trying to replace my cool old finds with new ones with data, and welp, here we are. Seeing this fly land on a spot of moist mud I almost freaked out as I have legit been looking for this species for a while. In fact, I missed collecting it when it first came (which was only like 30 mins ago) , but then it came back! Being the syrphid-obsessed middle schooler I am, this was pretty cool
My uncle is a simi professional photographer - he got this hummingbird a few years back in Colorado somewhere in Estes Park. @joedziewa @psweet according to him getting this shot took hours
Trichocorixa? Found in a country club pool
