I am 17 years old and visually impaired, being completely blind in one eye and partially blind in the other. I am passionate about biology as well as meteorology. I love birding, and I’m able to recognize many local species around me by their songs and calls. I also take an interest in insects that use sound to communicate, such as katydids, cicadas, and cricket cicadas, which are my favorites. In addition, I really enjoy identifying Florida frog species by sound. Traveling to new places to see flora and fauna has always fascinated me. So far I’ve been to China, Honduras, and the Grand Cayman Islands, but Madagascar is next on my bucket list, and my aim is to see red ruffed lemurs, one of my favorite animals, in the wild.
I love using iNaturalist and the community that the platform brings together. A goal of mine is to one day create a sort of iNaturalist tool for cloud spotting and identification, as clouds are separated into groups or genera, species, and varieties, and their classification is very similar to that of animal species, which can tell a lot about atmospheric conditions and the weather.
