I've been interested in wildlife from a young age when I spent my time collecting insects with an old school friend in Exeter, Devon - mostly still a lovely, rural, part of England. Nevertheless, many of our old hunting grounds have now disappeared due to the relentless pressure of progress and population growth - mostly memories remain!
I moved to New Zealand in 2005 and enthusiastically joined the conservation community, initially as a volunteer on a number of projects in and around Auckland. I still retain my childhood fascination with insects, more recently studying New Zealand's moth and butterfly fauna. In particular working with Dr Robert Hoare on the New Zealand Arthropod Collection (NZAC) located in Auckland.

Please check out my guide to: Micro - Moths of New Zealand's Kauri Kingdom, https://inaturalist.nz/guides/4752. This guide aims to illustrate the diverse range of Lepidoptera to be found across the North Island of New Zealand, home of the magnificent Kauri. There are areas of high quality forest, regenerating native forest, diverse coast and marine areas. The guide utilizes iNaturalist observations together with specimens from the author's reference collection.
